2024 Gladstone Harbour Report Card

The 2024 Gladstone Harbour Report Card is the tenth annual Report Card released by the Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership (GHHP) and provides a holistic assessment of the harbour's Environmental, Economic, Social and Cultural health.

The 2024 Report presents monitoring data collected from July 2023 to June 2024. It includes updated results for all Environmental indicators, and the Economic Performance and Economic Stimulus indicators. There are no new assessments for Social and Cultural indicators this year, as these have remained stable annually.

To mark the partnership’s decade-long milestone, this special 10th anniversary edition of the Report Card also features trend graphs showing ten-years of overall results for key environmental indicators such as Water and Sediment Quality, Seagrass, Mud Crabs, and Fish Recruitment. The results of the 2022-2023 Litter and Marine Debris assessment, as well as the results of the Human Dimensions survey which assesses the community’s thoughts on waterway health and management, is also included in the 2024 Report.

 LITTER AND MARINE DEBRIS

The Australian Marine Debris Initiative measures the impact of litter on environments by comparing the total litter collected against a 10-year historic baseline. The litter data included in this year's report was collected between July 2022 and June 2023 by volunteers participating in the Tangaroa Blue Foundation's  clean-up projects.

Litter Metric 2024.png

Low or very low pressure across all 14 clean-up sites

Six out of the eight sites had improved scores, suggesting that the clean-up efforts had a positive impact

The largest improvement was Esplanade Beach with very low pressure

Only two revisited sites, East Beach (Quoin Island) and Lilley’s Beach, received lower scores
